Caution:
DO NOT EXCEED THE WORKING LOAD LIMIT.
WORKING LOAD LIMIT designates the maximum stress in pounds which should ever be applied to chain. This refers also to chain in the best condition, when new, and when the load is applied uniformly to a straight, untwisted length of chain.

WARNING: WORK LOAD LIMIT MUST NOT BE EXCEEDED.
BREAK TEST LOAD is the minimum load in pounds at which new chain has been found by experience to break, under tests in which the load is applied in direct tension to a straight length of chain with a uniform rate of speed on a standard chain testing machine.

DESIGN of Grade 80 Alloy Steel Chain

GRADE

Finish Options for G80 Lifting Chain

  • Black oxide / black painted: common finish for Grade 80 lifting chain; strong visual identification and economical corrosion protection.
  • Self-color with oil: economical option for short storage periods or customers who will apply their own coating.
  • Electro-galvanized: available by order where the process is controlled and post-finish testing/certification is required.
  • Powder coated / color painted: useful for color coding, branding and additional surface protection.
  • Electrophoretic coating / E-coat: uniform coating option for customers who require consistent appearance and improved surface coverage.

STANDARDS

HEAT TREATMENT

1. Raw material inspection: chemical composition and steel grade are checked before production.
2. Welding and calibration: links are formed, welded and dimensionally controlled.
3. Quenching and tempering: heat treatment develops Grade 80 strength and toughness.
4. Dimensional inspection: pitch, inner width, outer width and diameter are verified.
5. Proof load testing: each batch is tested before release.
6. Marking and packing: chain is marked, documented and packed for export.

FAQ of Grade 80 Alloy Chain

What standard should Grade 80 lifting chain meet?

For chain slings in many markets, Grade 80 lifting chain is commonly specified to EN 818-2. Buyers should confirm the required local standard and certificate format before ordering.

G80 alloy chain is Grade 80 heat-treated alloy steel lifting chain designed for chain slings, rigging and overhead lifting assemblies when used with compatible rated components and proper certification.

Common sizes from 6 mm to 32 mm cover WLL values from 1.12 t to 31.5 t. The correct WLL depends on chain diameter, sling configuration and lifting angle.

Grade 80 alloy chain is widely used for overhead lifting when it is manufactured, tested, certified and assembled with compatible lifting components according to the required standard.

A common EN 818-2 Grade 80 specification uses a manufacturing proof load of 2.5× the Working Load Limit. The proof load should be shown in the batch test certificate.

The minimum breaking load is commonly 4× WLL for Grade 80 lifting chain. It is not the working load; it is a destructive-test value used to verify design factor.

Galvanizing heat-treated lifting chain requires process control and certification review. Do not assume a galvanized finish is acceptable for lifting unless the finished chain is tested and certified for the required WLL.

G80 alloy chain delivers higher strength and better fatigue resistance than lower-grade carbon chains. You lift heavier loads with smaller chain sizes. Manufacturing-grade control ensures predictable elongation and break behavior. Lower grades suit load binding rather than overhead lifting.

Comparison highlights

  • Higher working load limit

  • Better shock resistance

  • Designed for overhead lifting

  • Longer service life

  • Compatible with lifting fittings

Inspection keeps lifting operations safe. You inspect alloy chain before use and during service life. Visual checks catch wear, stretching, or cracks early. Manufacturer markings help confirm grade and size during inspections.

Inspection focus areas

  • Link elongation

  • Surface cracks

  • Excessive wear

  • Heat discoloration

  • Missing identification marks

Yes. Custom marking, brand tags, drum packing, bundle packing, pallet packing and export packaging can be discussed based on order quantity and destination market requirements.
